Family History and Web Mapping

Introduction

This Web Site has been built as an introduction to show how family history or genealogy and web mapping can be incorporated together.

The village of Mousehole situated in the parish of Paul, West Penwith, Cornwall has been chosen a start point as my own family tree can be traced back here to 1595. Records prior to this date were lost when the Spanish burnt down the Parish church.

A selection of historic maps of Cornwall and West Penwith which illustate the development of mapping from c1597 to 1885 are shown on this page. By clicking on the image you will be able to sroll through the various maps.

The information was sourced from the West Penwith Resources Website. Further information regarding Mousehole and my family tree can be found by following the links under the menu. On these pages an attempt has been made to embed either Google Maps or Google Earth to illustrate how various aspects of family history made be better visualised through the use of Web Mapping.
